HOW to Choose a Cast Iron Radiator

Stage One: What Style of radiator do you wish?
Choose the Type/Style of Radiator you wish to install.
All our radiators can fit to modern pipe work and boilers.

Stage Two: Measure your space/room
Take rough measurements of the room, or area you want to heat - width, length and how high is the ceiling.
From this you will get the required BTU (heat output) for your room(s)

Stage Three: How much heat is needed? and how big does the radiator need to be?
You need to calculate the BTU (heat output) for your room. Copy the the form on our web site (BTU Page) and use that or call us (01747 825 646) and we will do all the calculations for you for FREE.

When you call us we will also ask you whether your room has double-glazing, outside doors and whether your room is a bedroom, hall etc. We can advise on sizes, heights and how to split the required BTU into two or more radiators.

For example:
You may wish to have larger radiator on the walls and a shorter radiator under the windows.

For example:
A MORRIS radiator with a height of 740mm is the design you may wish to match to your room design.
You would match up on the Radiator Designer Table the total BTU you need (you worked this out on the form you copied) for your room with the total in the BTU column in the Radiator Designer Table (for the design you chose) to give you the size of radiator you need. You can of course add two sizes together (to match the total BTU for your room) so you can have two radiators in the same room but with different lengths or heights.

Stage Four: How long will the radiator need to be?
Check the size (total length)of the area you wish to place the radiator in your room.
The Radiator Designer table gives you the length of the radiator you wish to order based on the BTU required.

If your wall space is smaller than the radiator you need, you will can switch to a taller radiator, which has fewer sections and therefore not as wide but has the same BTU output.
Remember that as cast iron radiators work very well it is highly unlikely that space will be an issue.

Stage Five: What paint or finish can I have?
Now you have selected the radiator style & size you like you now need to decide how you would like to have your radiator finished.

Painted, hand polished or with one of our Designer Finishes.

Select the PAINT FINISHES that you would like from the choices on our site (see the Paint Finishes pages), or just call and ask us to match a RAL colour you require.

Remember that some paints yellow or discolour, some get soft when hot and others can give of fumes.
We ONLY recommenced safe paints that are suitable for purpose. Again if you have a question on this just call us and ask.

We do NOT recommend your radiators to be powder coated as this can crack over time and its process can damage the seals. Repairs to powder coatings are next to impossible.

Stage Six: What type of Valve can I use
Your final choice is now the style and type of valves you wish..
Look at our VALVES pages to decide whether you would like a period brass or chrome valve, thermostatic valve or manual.

Stage Seven: How to Order
Call us to check all the details and then you can order.
